YorPower: Surging ahead since the company’s reorganisation in 2023

YorPower is one of the industry’s most trusted providers of back-up power solutions for customers in a wide variety of sectors, both in the UK and around the world.

Last year, YorPower brought together all the constituent parts of its group of companies that make it such a diverse and comprehensive service provider; PPSPower and Glenace were merged to create a single global brand ‘YorPower’. All staff members now work from the company’s headquarters in Sherburn-in Elmet, West Yorkshire. This reorganisation has created a far more efficient service which, during the past year, has already seen greater growth in all areas of the business – over and above the steady growth of the last few years.

YorPower’s vision statement is: Be the most trusted provider of UPS, generator and control panel solutions.

‘Trusted’ is a word that has always been integral to the YorPower. In the back-up power industry, companies depend on continuous power – any power failure, even momentary, can be disastrous. That’s why having a reliable and trusted provider of back-up power solutions is so important and YorPower is proud to be that trusted name for a growing number of customers.

In recent months YorPower has secured major works with companies like National Grid, EMCOR and British Telecom to name a few. The bringing together of the businesses has opened the door to more turnkey solutions for our customers where we supply UPS, generator and control panel solutions together as a comprehensive, cost-effective package.

Managing Director Stephen Peal has also spearheaded a culture change centred around the welfare of his staff; this includes making sure everyone has their say in the direction the company takes. After all, the people are the business. Stephen sums up his approach:

“A generator will not work perfectly every time without a comprehensive maintenance package in place…Neither will people.”

What is emergency back-up power?

Emergency back-up power is a thriving industry. Most organisations are built around 24/7 service. Even a momentary break in power can be disastrous. For healthcare providers, lives can literally depend on a reliable supply of continuous power.

Most emergency power systems are based on diesel generators, but these can take a few seconds to kick in. Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) units are an additional method of ensuring continuous uninterrupted power for businesses, which is crucial for critical environments.

What trusted looks like for YorPower’s clients

YorPower delivers back-up power solutions for customers in a wide range of industry sectors, as mentioned above. Without exception, each puts its complete trust in YorPower’s specialists to ensure its business will always have the power it needs to operate at 100%, no matter the circumstances. Here are just a small number of YorPower’s current customers:

KCOM – the East Yorkshire broadband and communications provider. Rather than a supplier-user relationship, the two companies have developed a lasting partnership that sees KCOM call on YorPower to advise on best practice and cost-effectiveness in its maintenance strategy. This led to the achievement of the PFM Partners in Expert Services award in 2021.

Daisy Group – the national provider of cloud, IT and telecommunications services, including Internet hosting, broadband Internet connections, and VOIP. Following early success, Daisy Group awarded YorPower a large national contract covering multiple back-up power requirements at sites nationwide.

National Grid – delivering electricity and gas safely and reliably to customers and communities throughout the UK (and the US). YorPower is proud to be part of its large supply chain, ensuring its gas continues to be distributed safely and effectively.

Football clubs – YorPower has supported a number of clubs with their power needs, including Leeds United, Sheffield United, Rotherham United, Burnley, Swansea and Ross County in Scotland. YorPower’s back-up power solutions mean that clubs always have a reliable power solution to ensure their facility remains fully operational and everyone is safe to enjoy the action.

Unite Students – YorPower has built up a detailed understanding of the company’s needs, which has led to the start of a transition from generators to uninterruptible power supply (UPS) units at appropriate sites.

The initiative of transitioning to UPS units makes economic sense and can save customers considerable expenditure in the long run. It is also a positive step towards becoming carbon-neutral. This aligns with YorPower’s own drive to become a net zero organisation. In 2023, the company gained a “silver” accreditation form Carbon Neutral Zone, which specialises in helping organisations of all kinds to achieve their green ambitions. YorPower can now target the final step to becoming net zero within a realistic time frame.
