CIWM appoints early careers president

The Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) has appointed Charlotte Davies as its first Early Careers President, in a move which underscores the organisation’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that the industry is equipped with the resources and skills necessary to support its continued growth.

In this new role, Davies will lead the Early Careers Team, which consists of several Early Careers Ambassadors from across the sector.

The Early Careers Team’s responsibilities will include attending strategic meetings to represent the voices of early careers professionals and serving as external ambassadors, particularly for those who are just starting their careers. They will support with reverse mentoring of Trustees and the leadership team, promoting CIWM, and highlighting the benefits of professional membership. Additionally, the team will participate as speakers or panellists in CIWM events, assist with outreach initiatives aimed at colleges and universities and will contribute to the design and delivery of strategic projects, ensuring the perspectives of early careers professionals are taken into account.

Davies, an Associate member of CIWM, joined the environmental consultancy and compliance scheme Beyondly in September 2021 as an Environmental Data Analyst and Resource Efficiency Consultant before being promoted to Senior Consultant for Resource Efficiency and Circularity in February of this year.

Davies said of her new appointment: “I will actively engage with individuals at various stages of their careers, including those at university, to inspire and support professional development in the waste and resources sector. I aim to enhance current outreach programs, workshops, and webinars to provide valuable insights into industry trends and career opportunities in the circular economy. By utilising technologies and social platforms such as TikTok, I hope to extend CIWM’s reach to new age groups, raising awareness of the importance of resource efficiency and waste management in addressing the climate crisis.”
