“The opportunity to support our charity partner, Maggie’s, whilst also providing high quality training for our members is a bit of a no-brainer for us”
These were the words of Mark Jenkins, Treasurer of the Institute of Workplace and Facilities Management Scotland Region as he discussed the institute’s upcoming face-to-face CPD event in Livingston.
Bringing together PPL Training and IWFM Scotland, Mark began discussions about this event in August this year.
With talks delivered by PPL Training Managing Director, Gary Cooper, the session promises to be packed full of useful information for Facilities Managers of any level.
Drawing on his experience as a qualified and multi-skilled mechanical engineer, Gary has over 30 years experience in military and commercial environments. He has an extensive background in safe systems of work, across the whole FM portfolio, and was formerly a practising AE for Mechanical and Confined Spaces for many NHS Trusts and FM companies.
The Event
To be held at the Mercure Livingston on Thursday, 21st November (9am – 1pm), this event is aimed at those who may be new to FM and particularly those who require some technical knowledge of hard FM services.
Based on PPL Training’s Facilities Management Contract Managers Technical Awareness course, this session is designed to provide an overview of some of the key themes touched upon in that course, such as:
- General Health & Safety – The responsibility of the Facilities / Contract Manager
- Fire Safety Technical Awareness
- Electrical Safety
- Mechanical Systems Safety Requirements
- Training and Competency for Facilities and technical teams
The event itself costs £20 to attend, with all proceeds going to Mind – the IWFM’s charity partners, and Maggie’s – IWFM Scotland’s chosen charity partner.
About Maggie’s
Maggie’s charity provides free expert care and support for those affected by cancer.
Maggie’s have 8 centres in Scotland, located in:
- Aberdeen
- Dundee
- Edinburgh
- Fife
- Forth Valley
- Glasgow
- Highlands
- Lanarkshire
From each of these bright and welcoming spaces, they house cancer support specialists, psychologists and benefits advisors for those with a cancer diagnosis, and their loved ones.
PPL’s Perspective
For PPL Training, the opportunity to provide just a taste of the courses that they provide to the IWFM’s members in Scotland, whilst giving back to the community and good causes was equally evident. Ahead of the event, Gary Cooper said:
“We have been providing training in Scotland for over 10 years, but over the last 18 months we’ve been able to do that from our newest centre in Livingston.
“This event is a great opportunity for us to partner with IWFM and support some great causes in Mind and Maggie’s along the way.
We look forward to meeting some new faces at the event later this month and hope that we can continue to serve Scotland’s FM providers well into the future.”
