Head of ESG and Safety hire at Houston & Hawkes

Houston & Hawkes, independent B Corp caterer, has appointed James Carr as Head of ESG and Safety.

With a strong focus on sustainability, safety, and long-term corporate responsibility, Carr will play a pivotal role in enhancing the company’s excellent safety record, driving forward its sustainability initiatives, and ensuring the company achieves its net zero commitments.

Carr brings a wealth of expertise in environmental leadership, safety management, and ESG strategy to his new role. Most recently, he served as Head of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) at Wasabi. Prior to that, he was an Environmental Health Officer with York City Council and spent five years as Group Head of Health and Sustainability for Rhubarb.

In his new role, Carr will oversee the company’s efforts to continue setting the benchmark for safety across the industry, working closely with teams to ensure best practices and the wellbeing of all staff, customers and clients. He will also spearhead sustainability initiatives while championing the company’s comprehensive B Corp strategy as the business approaches its recertification in 2025.

Speaking about his new role, Carr said: “I am so excited to join such a forward-thinking and purpose-driven company. The work that Houston & Hawkes has already done in the areas of safety, sustainability, and corporate responsibility is remarkable. I look forward to contributing to the next chapter of this journey as we continue to push boundaries, innovate, and make a positive impact on both our business and the wider community.”

Dave Hawkes, co-founder and Director of Houston & Hawkes, said of Carrs appointment: “We are delighted to welcome James to the Houston & Hawkes team. His experience and expertise will be invaluable as we continue to build on our outstanding safety culture and take decisive action to support our ambitious ESG ambitions. With his leadership, we are confident that our commitment to sustainability, safety, and our B Corp values will continue to thrive, ensuring we remain at the forefront of the industry.”
