Angel Hill Food Co. giving back to coffee growers in Honduras

OCS Group’s B&I contract catering company, Angel Hill Food Co., has raised over $10,000 through its Groundhouse Coffee ‘Giveback Programme’, directly benefiting the Capucas Co-operative in Las Capucas, San Pedro, Copan, Honduras.

Angel Hill Food Co.’s innovative Giveback Programme reinforces the company’s commitment to making a positive impact with every cup of coffee sold. In partnership with Capucas Co-operative – founded by Jose Omar Rodriguez in 1999 and now comprising over 1,000 members – the initiative channels funds into vital community projects that support the poorest growers. The cooperative, located at an altitude of 1450-1600 meters, harvests coffee between January and April and exports it from May to July.

Funds raised have been used to:

  • Improve Infrastructure: Upgrading housing conditions with new windows, flooring, and enhanced living spaces.
  • Support Sustainable Agriculture: Providing training on vegetable growing, pest management, soil health, and the use of essential harvesting tools.
  • Enhance Community Facilities: Investing in practical upgrades such as better kitchens, showers, and sheltered areas for tools and equipment.

Henry Watts, Managing Director, Catering UK at OCS said: “The success of our Giveback Programme demonstrates our dedication to ethical sourcing and sustainable business practices. For each case of our Groundhouse blends purchased, we donate £2 to a fund that directly supports the Capucas community. In 2024, I am pleased to announce that we raised over $10,000, which has already been put to work improving living conditions and supporting sustainable farming practices.”

Angel Hill Food Co. also remains committed to sustainability across its operations. The company employs recyclable and biodegradable packaging materials, including plant-based inks and compostable bags, and actively promotes sustainable practices like organic farming, agroforestry, and water conservation. These initiatives not only help reduce the company’s carbon footprint but also support long-term environmental stewardship.

With 1.52 million cups of Groundhouse Coffee served in 2023 generating significant funds for the Capucas farming community, and with an additional $10,313 raised in 2024, Angel Hill Food Co. says it is dedicated to continuing its mission. The revolving fund will ensure that every dollar raised is reinvested into the community’s most pressing needs.
