BSRIA updates BG 80 guide to help FMs stay compliant

The Building Services Research and Intelligence Association (BSRIA) has launched the latest edition of its BG 80 Statutory Compliance Inspection Checklist, an essential resource for facilities managers navigating evolving building regulations.

The updated guide published by the research and consultancy organisation for the built environment, reflects the latest changes to building legislation and Approved Codes of Practice, ensuring FMs can effectively plan and manage inspections across building services systems.

Key features of the new BG 80 guide include:

  • Updated compliance requirements – Reflecting recent changes in legislation, Approved Codes of Practice, and official guidance
  • Expanded UK coverage – Now includes regulatory requirements for Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland alongside England
  • Fire safety compliance – Includes new inspection tasks required under the Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022
  • Health Technical Memoranda (HTMs) – Incorporates guidance for healthcare environments
  • Improved usability – Available as an editable Excel workbook with best practice instructions to streamline administration

David Bleicher, Lead Author of BG 80/2025 at BSRIA, said: “Facilities managers face increasing complexity in statutory compliance, and this guide simplifies the process. With clear, structured guidance and an easy-to-use format, BG 80 helps teams stay on top of legal requirements while ensuring buildings remain safe, efficient, and well-maintained.”

Jo Harris, UK & Ireland Head of Technical Services at Sodexo UK & Ireland, who supported the guide, commented: “Sodexo is committed to ensuring that all our hard FM contracts meet statutory compliance. We are supporting this guide to ensure all owners and operators of facilities have easy access to essential compliance guidance. Keeping up with regulations can be challenging without the right resources, but working with BSRIA ensures an independent review – eliminating uncertainty and providing a single, reliable source of truth for the building services assets we maintain.”
