Construction training firm grows retrofit training division to increase qualified professionals in industry

National training provider specialising in construction, utilities and green skills, Simply Learning (formerly Expedient Training) has appointed Angela Keyworth as Director of Retrofit and Renewables Training to significantly grow its retrofit training division.

Keyworth, who has been running JWP Success Ltd for seven years, is joining Simply Learning, bringing her existing client base and team over to the company.

Keyworth, who is a well-known name in retrofit and renewables training, currently offers a full suite of energy and retrofit qualifications including PAS 2035 Retrofit Assessor, NVQ Level 3 Domestic Energy Assessment and a Combined Fast Track dual qualification (DEA & PAS).

Her role at Simply Learning will be to expand the current client base with the backing of the larger training organisation, allowing them to support more people to upskill ahead of net zero 2050.

Keyworth, who is based in Sheffield, will give Jarrow-based Simply Learning an additional site to deliver more training in the North and Midlands and will be responsible for running the new Retrofit and Renewables training centre.

Simply Learning rebranded from Expedient Training in early 2024 after being acquired in a ground-breaking deal between Simply Certification and UK National to grow the number of qualified professionals in construction, utilities and green skills and support companies in the race to net zero.

This additional appointment is part of a three-year growth plan to achieve £12 million combined turnover for Simply Learning and Simply Certification and allow more qualified professionals to enter the market and access opportunities in the run up to 2050.

Alex Gates, MD of Simply Certification and Simply Learning said: “We are delighted that such an experienced and well-known trainer is joining the team at Simply Learning. This strategic appointment will allow us to grow in the direction of market need. There is a huge shortfall in qualified people to deliver retrofit and we are tackling this head on. Angela will benefit from the size and structure of Simply Learning and this will allow her to build on her already strong training provision.

“The current daily retrofits needed to meet 2050 targets are quite daunting and the North is lagging behind compared to the South, so now is the time for us to act. This appointment means that we can start to close that gap, whilst also growing nationally so that qualified people can enter the market and thrive. It’s a really big opportunity and one we are fully committed to seeing through.”

Keyworth said of her appointment: “Simply Learning is a fantastic forward-thinking company, with high values and integrity in line with my own. We are both very passionate and focused on meeting the shortfall of qualified retrofit and renewables professionals in the market. Moving my offering to Simply Learning will allow me to grow my team and benefit fully from the infrastructure and sales support of this larger entity. I am really excited to take the retrofit and renewables training division to the next level. It’s an exciting time and the opportunity is massive.”
