Elevated workplace basics meet a growing need for FMs to enhance wellbeing and productivity

The core remit of facilities management is to ensure safety and compliance within the workplace, but there is also a growing drive to deliver more than just the basics by finding ways to create a workplace which actively enhances wellbeing.

This is the basis of a podcast FMJ held with a group of workplace experts in collaboration with ZIP Water to discuss the kind of elevated essentials for the workplace that improve wellbeing, increase staff retention and meet ESG credentials.

The panel comprises Dan Johnson, Service Director for the UK & Ireland at Zip Water UK, Environmental Psychologist Nigel Oseland, Lynsey O’Keefe, CEO for Sodexo Corporate Services and Senior Design Professional Patrick Ames a Director at Claremont. The discussion ranges from the benefits of enhancing workplace wellbeing and how good food and drink can support worker’s health to practical design tips on creating a healthier workplace.

Dan Johnson cites the report by FMJ and ZIP Water which reveals that employees are no longer taking their workplace for granted but recognise the impact it can have on their productivity, wellbeing, mental health and how they contribute and interact with their colleagues and customers.

Defining workplace wellbeing is more difficult than it sounds comments Dr Nigel Oseland as it’s much broader than being physically and mentally well but rather in having a sense of purpose which meets your goals and expectations in society.

Crucially the panel also discusses the return on workplace wellbeing investment, including studies which have helped to quantify the impact of good design.
