Kier appointed for FM service delivery at new cancer hospital

As part of the ACORN consortium, Kier, has secured the FM services contract at the new Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff upon the completion of its build in 2027.

Commencing in April 2027, the 25-year contract, which will be delivered by Kier Place includes mechanical and electrical maintenance, building fabric maintenance, fire systems and reactive maintenance, energy management, drainage systems, digital management, contract management reporting, health and safety, and provision of help desk services.

It aims to provide patients and carers with high-quality and sustainable services, delivering the most effective treatments while also leading national and international education, research and innovation in cancer patient care.

The hospital, which targets BREEAM ‘Excellent’, is designed to be all-electric, supporting low energy demand and low operational carbon.

Paul Jones, Operations Director for Kier Places, said: “The Velindre Cancer Centre is already a vital healthcare facility in Wales. To be part of the consortium which is developing a new state-of-the-art facility to extend these services to even more cancer patients, and with such a focus on innovation and environmental impact, is a real privilege and we’re delighted to be on board.”

Navigating FM efforts to sustainability

As environmental protection demands unified action, transparency, and heightened awareness, Biological Preparations has launched an initiative to catalyse sustainability efforts within the FM sector.

FM businesses face unique challenges and heightened expectations of eco-initiatives from their clients. Yet, behind the scenes in FM businesses, many environmental initiatives, rollouts and even planning, are not broadcasted and transparent.

Have your say: Sustainability Trends in FM

The UK biotech company’s five-minute, anonymous FM-focused survey, offers FM professionals of all hierarchies with a platform to voice their perspectives and share their experiences. The results from this survey will then be analysed and presented as an industry-specific report, which aims to guide FM businesses helping them benchmark trends, gain clarity on industry challenges, and map out goals and metrics towards sustainability.
