MARCH wins South London hard FM school deal

Critical engineering firm MARCH (formerly the Edwin James Group) has been selected for the provision of hard FM services at Alleyn’s School’s two sites in South London.

The contract covers comprehensive maintenance services across Alleyn’s 23-building estate on Townley Road and the School’s Edward Alleyn Club site in Herne Hill.

The three-year contract, which has the potential of two additional one-year extensions, commenced in December with a mobilisation phase where MARCH will provide a full asset verification and lifecycle assessment. The initial phase will ensure accurate documentation and condition assessment of all assets, enabling MARCH to establish accurate replacement timelines and build a strategy for effective lifecycle management.

Phase two, a planned and reactive maintenance programme tailored to meet the specific needs of Alleyn’s diverse estate, will follow in February 2025. Services will include mechanical and electrical maintenance, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, water hygiene, building management systems, computer-aided facility management & helpdesk services, and 24/7 reactive maintenance.

Commenting on the contract award, Donald Jackman, Facilities Services Director at MARCH said: “At MARCH, we are committed to building partnerships that make a real difference. By bringing our expertise to Alleyn’s diverse estate, we aim to enhance its efficiency and longevity through proactive asset management and a focus on long-term infrastructure health. Working together, we’ll ensure their facilities operate smoothly and reliably, allowing them to dedicate their energy to what truly matters – serving their school community.”

Neil Sheppard, Director of Site Operations at Alleyn’s School, commented: “We’re pleased to be working with MARCH as our chosen hard FM services partner. Their in-depth understanding of our needs, paired with a skilled team and a commitment to shared values, makes them an ideal fit. We look forward to a collaborative relationship that will benefit our entire school community.”

Alleyn’s School is a leading HMC co-educational school for children aged 4-18.

Webinar: Staying on Top of Safety

FMJ has partnered with Watco to deliver a webinar on Thursday 30th January where we will be grilling a panel of experts on how facilities managers can maintain a safe workplace while balancing shrinking budgets.

The webinar follows the Lifting the Lid report series that the industrial paint and repair products specialist has been developing over the past few years based on research conducted with FMs across the UK. The research explored core responsibilities of the FM role, including how they have evolved in the past decade, and the associated challenges to manage.

Watco’s Sales Director and key contributor to the reports, Chris Budd, will be joined by a panel of experts including Phil Pinnington, Head of Audit & Consultancy at the British Safety Council, Nick Bray, Head of HSEQ, ISS UK and Ireland and Jenni Gallop, Director of Estates and Facilities at Provide Community.

With decades of combined experience in the introduction and management of health and safety in complex, demanding environments, the panel will provide the audience with recommendations broken down into steps that can be introduced immediately.

The panel will discuss the research data from FMs across the UK, the evidence they have seen of those experiences across industries and their first-hand recommendations on how to manage those challenges and ease the pressure.
