Sodexo to deliver data-first approach to sustainable asset management for NHS Trust

Sodexo Health & Care is set to roll out an intelligent and collaborative asset performance management software to make smarter decisions and increase efficiency, sustainability, and cost savings following its success at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT).

Sodexo partnered with Xempla to implement the technology at MFT, one of the largest acute NHS Trusts in the country.  Over the last 18 months the system has enabled Sodexo to make significant improvements in the delivery of services at MFT, this includes:

  • reduce energy costs by over £300,000
  • 1million KWh reduction in electrical energy consumption
  • Carbon reduction of over 2,000 tonnes
  • Avoiding 85 asset early lifecycle events and preventing 69 critical asset outages and user areas functional unavailability

Mark Foden, Group Associate Director of Sustainability, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust said: “MUFT are excited to be working with Sodexo on this innovation which has already begun to deliver a wide range of benefits to the operation of the estate.  Utilising data to better inform maintenance activity supports energy, carbon and cost savings, reduced downtime of plant and increased availability of critical equipment along with improved overall building user experience”.

The Xempla system is fully-integrated into Sodexo’s existing systems and uses proactive tracking and monitoring to identify potential issues with assets through the DIIV (Discover, Investigate, Implement and Verify) framework. Once identified, engineers collaborate through the system before implementing measures to resolve the issue, preventing assets and critical areas of the hospital from becoming unexpectedly unavailable.

Xempla asset performance management software covers functional design data, anomaly detection, energy optimisation, predictive analytics, and maintenance optimisation in one application and integrates fully with various data systems/sources to provide holistic coverage on asset performance management.

Philip Leigh, CEO Health & Care, Sodexo UK & Ireland said: “Following the success at MFT we are now rolling out Xempla to seven other NHS Trusts where we deliver hard FM services. We anticipate this being completed by the end of 2024 and we look forward to delivering similar savings in terms of cost and environmental impact, enabling our partners to create a safe, comfortable environment to operate within, and allowing them to focus their efforts on delivering excellent patient experience.”

Sustainability Priorities and Challenges in FM

The FM industry is evolving quicker than ever before, and so are the demands of the customers it serves.

To help shed light on some of the trends that are shaping the sector, Biological Preparations, a leading UK biotech company, is conducting a survey in collaboration with FMJ to identify the sustainability priorities and challenges amongst FM leaders.

This five-minute, anonymous FM-focused survey, offers FM professionals of all hierarchies with a platform to voice their perspectives and share their experiences.

As a thank you for taking part in the survey you will be entered into a prize draw to win £250 worth of Amazon vouchers.
