Talkington Bates becomes B Corp certified

The independent contract caterer has received B Corp status, joining the only two other catering contractors in the UK to have the designation, Houston Hawkes and Leeming Pilkington.

B Corp status is certified by the non-profit organisation B Lab, and it ensures that companies meet social sustainability and environmental performance standards, as well as accountability standards across all areas of the business.

Talkington Bates joins 2,000 B Corps in the UK, representing its commitment to purpose-based goals outside of profit.

Certified B Corporations require a minimum B Impact Assessment score of 80 on their performance after being assessed in five key areas of governance, workers, community, environment and customers. Talkington Bates received a score of 93.5, demonstrating a high standard of social and environmental work. This achievement follows its certification in ISO9000 quality management and ISO14001 environmental management certification, which further ensures that it complies with high sustainability standards.

Alongside this certification, Talkington Bates was also recently announced as one of The Times Best Places to Work 2024, which assesses organisations through the employee experience specialist WorkL. It used a survey to measure employee engagement factors including wellbeing, staff development and training, and reward and recognition. Talkington Bates is part of 500 organisations accredited with the coveted title.

Co-founder of Talkington Bates, Paul Bates, said: “We are delighted to have received B Corp certification. As a privately-owned caterer, this process was especially long and challenging, but it also led us to think differently about how we operate. B Corp Certification, along with our quality management certifications and recognition from The Times have all helped us show how our transparent progressive environmental and social work are at the heart of everything we do.”
