UhUb’s ‘Sustainability by Degrees’ philosophy helps businesses deliver against Business Sustainability Objectives.
The cleaning sector is key in the Sustainability agenda and we are seeing more and more examples where sustainability is a deciding factor when service users throughout the supply chain, choose providers. UhUb believe sustainability, should be a way of life, not a ‘tick’ box exercise to win contracts or great PR noise, now more than ever as the physical ramifications of climate change are on our doorsteps.
So, UhUb has adopted a ‘Sustainability by Degrees’ philosophy, which quite simply means that ‘every action, no matter how small, can and should add to your sustainability credentials and that these actions become more worthwhile and positive when aligned with sustainable investments, especially if everyone in a business is educated to make the right decision and start the right discussions you will maximise your investments, results and impact.’
It’s a philosophy that is at the heart of our business and drives many of the decisions we make in our personal lives. It is who we are.
UhUb’s philosophy means we consider every aspect of our business which has led to decisions on how we design our solution, being a Network Structured Company (no office), engaging with remote working, and travelling sustainably or not at all where possible (so we’ll probably meet you on a screen). We even consider where our home office furniture comes from, the impact its manufacture and transport have on the environment, and those who make it.
Being 2 years Carbon Positive we’re very proud of our own sustainability credentials and we want to support our clients, partners, and their clients further. This is when ‘Sustainability by Degrees’ becomes truly effective. We’re all part of a supply chain and what we do, or do not do, impacts that chain. To ensure that we and our clients are not the weak link, our clients have access to a growing Content Catalogue which promotes the very best sustainable cleaning products & equipment, as well as Social and Wellbeing training.
So, the ‘Sustainability by Degrees’ philosophy means it’s not simply about the products you invest in, it’s about how these products are used and using them correctly. Neither the manufacturer nor you can deliver the product promise you bought into, your teams on the ground do that. This is where the right, easy access, training becomes invaluable. When you have a skilled, knowledgeable and engaged workforce, you ensure they are as productive as possible which leads to less time and less product wasted and less breakages, all of which are not only good for the planet but also for your bottom line.
Beyond that, when you train your people at work on sustainability, they will take that home with them and you will influence a greater social circle to be more sustainable. Think about that. If each of your employees take on knowledge that enables them to make better life choices or product choices for the home, and perhaps influence others around them to do the same by sharing knowledge you gave them, you have helped them, and others you may never meet or know, to become more sustainable by degrees. That’s meaningful change. That’s how it works.
