The Mears Foundation, the independent, charitable arm of Mears Group, has launched its Green Spaces project by donating £60,000 to support the development of green spaces in local communities.
This initiative aims to create or regenerate at least 60 green spaces nationally, for the benefit of each of the communities in which the company operates.
As part of the project, dozens of local communities across the UK have been offered up to £1,000 from the Mears Foundation to create and regenerate public green spaces. The spaces are designed to enhance the physical and mental wellbeing of residents, encourage community cohesion, and promote environmental sustainability.
The Government has estimated that parks and green spaces in England deliver an estimated £6.6 billion of climate change, environmental and health benefits every year. However, recent evidence has highlighted a lack of access to green spaces across the UK, with one third of people not having access to green space within a 15-minute walk of their homes.
Richard Hughes, Mears Partnership Development Director and Foundation trustee, said: “This project supports our ambition to become the most socially responsible business in the public sector by 2025 and, by contributing to the development of green spaces, we are investing in a healthier and more sustainable future for our communities.
“Our commitment to this project is not limited to financial contributions alone; our teams actively engage with local communities, collaborating with community leaders and volunteering to ensure the success of these initiatives.”
The winning proposals have now been selected and the projects are due to be completed by 31 December 2023.
Planned, proactive maintenance is a keystone of every FM strategy. However, with current cost constraints, there are many demands on Facilities Managers’ maintenance budgets. When it comes to drainage and plumbing, however, the expense of repairing blockages or dealing with flooding could vastly exceed the cost of preventative maintenance.
Given your role as an FM Professional, we would love to hear your views, challenges & experiences, and opinions on drainage & plumbing within the workplace.
