The prestigious Blue Fin Building, has been illuminated with SLOTLIGHT INFINITY and PANOS EVOLUTION luminaires from Zumtobel to ensure a high quality lighting solution with low total cost of ownership for the Cat A office refurbishment. The luminaires were chosen for their ability to address the exacting design criteria and provide virtually unlimited flexibility.
The Blue Fin building, also known as Bankside 1 in Southwark, London gets its name from the 2,000 blue aluminium fins that cover the building’s façade and shades the interior. The purpose-built building provides 450,000 sq. ft. of office space over 12 floors, with a central atrium that has a footprint measuring 18 x 35.6 metres. The upper tenth floor steps back on the eastern side providing a roof terrace with views to the north, south and east that stretches 95 metres in length at its longest point.
SLOTLIGHT INFINITY, recessed and flush mounted suspended luminaires were specified for the project in long runs with specially engineered corners. The recessed fittings supplied in 74m lengths, are designed to sit in a prepared aperture with a shadow gap. The long lengths of SLOTLIGHT INFINITY with their 20m long diffusers and specially angled corners of 108 degrees also had to align exactly with the ceiling tiles.
SLOTLIGHT INFINITY suspended luminaires with low reflectors have also been installed to produce a light scallop high up on the walls.
The SLOTLIGHT INFINITY linear product family from Zumtobel offers nearly unlimited options, with freedom and flexibility of design across all architectural applications – in straight lines, around corners. Unmatched, consistent light quality with virtually end-to-end illumination is available in one modular solution to fulfill every advanced lighting design requirement.
PANOS EVOLUTION LED downlights compliment the linear luminaires and provide the highest level of system efficiency and help to create the desired lighting effect. These round, recessed downlights, with a clear stylistic idiom and easy installation features, have a comfortable colour rendering index of Ra > 80 and perfect glare control.
The design of the lighting was critical to achieving the designers’ aspirations and deliver the unobtrusive illumination specified on the brief and, with the development of tailored solutions for luminaire lengths and special corners, Zumtobel achieved this.
