CISTERMISER’S NEW CPD PRESENTATION EXPLAINS THE
BENEFITS OF IOT REMOTE MONITORING
Intelligent washroom controls and water e iciency specialist Cistermiser
has launched a new CPD learning module entitled: “Using the Internet
of Things for Water Temperature Monitoring to Help Reduce Risk of
Legionella”. The fourth edition of ACoP L8, published by the HSE in
2013 with technical guidance published separately in Health & Safety
Guidance 274, was compiled to help duty-holders comply with their legal
duties and Part 2 of this document specifically deals with the control of
Legionella bacteria in hot and cold water systems.
This CPD fully discusses the issues around this important requirement and
describes how the latest remote monitoring systems using IoT technology
platforms deliver significant advantages for management of commercial
buildings in the 21st century.
Key considerations include the threat of Legionella and other waterborne

TEL PROMOTES LAB SUSTAINABILITY IN
BRITISH SCIENCE WEEK
A specialist UK manufacturer of energy-e icient electronic airflow controls and
monitors used British Science Week to promote environmental sustainability in
laboratories in order to help combat the environment and climate emergency.
TEL’s energy-e icient products are critical to the respiratory protection of
laboratory workers worldwide, enabling customers to sustainably comply
with health and safety legislation, and British Science Week provided a strong
opportunity to encourage sustainability within the sector.
During the week, the company communicated with those responsible for
designing and procuring fume cupboard systems within educational and
commercial science laboratories, highlighting the importance of doing so
sustainably and providing the necessary guidance.
TEL also underlined the budgetary benefits of
installing energy-e icient laboratory airflow systems.
Customers who have converted from conventional
constant airflow volume (CAV) to variable airflow
volume (VAV) solutions have reduced their energy
costs by up to 85%.
Other ways in which the environmental
sustainability of laboratories can be improved
include the fitting of auto sash controllers, which
automatically close fume cupboard sashes when the
units are not occupied.
Based in Derbyshire, TEL was established in 1969,
and has an international supplier network spanning Europe, the US, Africa and
Asia. It has worked on a number of laboratory projects recognised in leading
sustainability awards, including the Green Gown and S-Lab initiatives.
