TURN TO THE TOILET TO ACHIEVE
BEST PRACTICE
Public venues can
increase their appeal
to potential customers
by up to 20%, just by
changing the toilet.
Many of the UK’s
11 million disabled
people- 20% of the
population- need
specialist equipment
to ‘go’ when away
from home. The
latest relevant British
Standard- BS8300:2018- notes that inclusion of a shower/ wash dry toilet, in
place of a conventional WC, enables people who do need help to undertake
their intimate care with greater dignity and independence. It is particularly
appropriate when providing specialise assisted accessible toilets such as
Changing Places or Space to Change.
The shower/ wash dry toilet also makes a WC facility more user-appropriate
for people with invisible issues, who may not even be registered disabled, such
as various muscular and mobility issues, continence etc.
Closomat is the UK’s brand leader, via its Palma Vita shower toilet. The
Closomat looks like- and can be used as a conventional WC, thereby addressing
the requirement of most people. Its integrated douching and drying, selected
as required, give people who do struggle the peace of mind that they leave the
washroom properly clean, dry, and odour-free.

ESSITY INVESTS IN SUSTAINABLE
FIBRE TECHNOLOGY
Essity is investing €37 million
in technology that will enable
the company to produce
high quality hygiene tissue
products from wheat straw.
This innovative process
will o er major sustainability
benefits since wheat straw
is an agricultural by-product
and a renewable resource.
The new process will
come into e ect in the second half of 2020 at Essity’s manufacturing plant in
Mannheim, Germany, with the wheat straw being sourced from farms in and
around Mannheim.
“This process will enable Essity to replace some certified fresh wood fibre with
renewable wheat straw,” said Essity’s UK Country Manager Kevin Starr. “This will
result in an environmental benefit as the process uses significantly less water
and energy. Additionally, it transforms an unused agricultural by-product into a
scalable new tissue fibre source.”
Essity has signed a license for exclusive rights with US-based Sustainable
Fibre Technologies (SFT) that will give Essity access to SFT’s Phoenix Process.
This technology converts plant-based renewable sources to pulp suitable for
manufacturing tissue products.
Tissue produced from wheat straw using the Phoenix Process is just as bright,
so© and strong as tissue produced from fresh wood pulp. It will used both in
consumer and professional tissue products.

the en-suite as it has so© lilac tones that work well with the wall graphics. Also
the shod/barefoot coverage and the homely look of the product is a big plus.
“Altro Wood Safety Comfort works well as a contrast to our furniture finish.
The look, comfort and safety underfoot were important features.”
